Any one had any experience tying and using Blondes for fresh water? I read on another site about how good they were for small mouth bass. I want to use them on Large mouth bass out here in the Sacramento delta area. The ones I saw tied were very heavy with the use of buck tail didn't seem sparse enough to me any one can tell me how many fibers to use for the tail and how many for the wing. I'm using steel head hooks to tie them with.

I'd start with about 20 - 30 hairs per tie. Try tying some with the hair from different parts of the tail... butt, and or tip for fullness. That will depend on what you're trying to imitate.

It's been a while since I was last here at Striper Moon. I went to the old site and had a look at Ken's flys especially Ray's fly. Seems to me there is structurally great similarities in Rays fly and Brook's blonde. Just for the devil of it I tied a blonde using the 30 fibers formula looked much better. Any Ideas about other hair fibers that could be used on smaller hook sizes? A friend of mine tie's a mini deceiver and slays the big red ears I think a small Ray's fly or Blonde would do the same. I'm making sure to tie a Ray's fly or too to try out when I use the blonde. Good to see you again John Kelsey I remember you from the old days when I used to come to Striper Moon.

Hey Mr.Maverick, good to hear from you.
Another material alternative might be a few spey hackle hairs. |

I think I'll try all of them let you know how they work when I can get out on the water again though that will be some time from now.

Another fiber to try might be calf tail.
