Default Trout fishing trip on Conn. river, Pittsburg, NH

Went fly fishing for trout for the first time last weekend in the Trophy section of the Connecticut River in Pittsburg, NH. I hired a guide for a half day the first day I was there (Friday) to show me the ropes of nymph fishing with indicators. I ended up catching 11 trout and one salmon over the 3 days I was there, which for a beginner isn't too shabby according to those I talked to. Of course, Charlie Shaden, the owner of Evening Sun Fly Shop in Pepperell, MA (this is a great fly shop worth checking out if anyone is ever in the area) told me he usually catches approx. 40 fish a day when he's up there, so I have quite a bit of learning to do to reach his level of trout angling mastery. Trout caught were a mixture of rainbows and brook trout. All fish except one rainbow were caught on size 18 beadhead midges, orange was the most productive color, followed by pink. The salmon was a smolt salmon, all silver with black spots, it was at least 16", and nice and fat. I fished with a two fly rig the whole time, larger fly in front, followed by the midge nymph. I've never fished with hooks that small, I found it challenging to keep a fish hooked on such small hooks.

I am now totally addicted to fly fishing for trout. :-)

Fished up there ~15 years ago after straying off alone from a family vacation in Lincoln. Absolutely gorgeous area and river. I remember getting a great cabin on the side of the road for like $15 a night. Fished some private pond where they socked trout and rented row boats. The pond was packed with trout. I fished the river for two days w/ decent success. i think in was probably july or aug. I did some "garden hackle' fishing in the river and caught the biggest sucker I've ever caught. Very dissapointing as I thought I had Moby Browny on the line.
