Power Outage Relief: A Glimpse of Hope for South Jersey Residents
In a much-needed ray of light, Atlantic City Electric has brought some good news to South Jersey residents reeling from the aftermath of the recent blizzard. The company has announced that power restoration efforts are progressing faster than initially anticipated, offering a glimmer of hope to those affected.
But here's where it gets controversial: while most customers can expect their electricity to be restored by tonight, those in the hardest-hit areas might have to wait until Friday. And this is the part most people miss - the company is pulling out all the stops, deploying over 1,100 field personnel, including local contractors and mutual assistance teams, to get the job done.
The blizzard, which dumped tons of heavy, wet snow and brought gusty winds of up to 55 mph, caused widespread damage and left over 90,000 homes and businesses without power on Monday evening. It's a challenging situation, but Atlantic City Electric is leaving no stone unturned in its restoration efforts.
As of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, the company's crews were working tirelessly to respond to outages impacting approximately 17,000 customers across the region. The majority of the work is focused on Atlantic, Cape May, and Burlington Counties, where the damage was most severe.
"The company is amassing one of its largest contingencies of field crews in recent years," the statement reads. "This includes more than 200 internal field employees, nearly 700 mutual assistance personnel, and 240 tree personnel."
Customers are encouraged to report any outages or downed wires by calling the company's dedicated number: 800-833-7476.
While the progress is encouraging, the road to full restoration is still a challenging one. The company's efforts are a testament to the resilience and dedication of those working tirelessly to bring power back to South Jersey.
So, what do you think? Are you impressed by the company's response, or do you feel there's room for improvement? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
